EMX-N48 8-channel Pair-Gain System with integrated 4-port mini IP-DSLAM Bottleneck of traditional Pair-Gain Solution In order to gain new telephone subscribers nearly all
telcos in the world have been solving copper cable shortage
problem by means of Pair-Gain System installations.
Pair-Gain Systems are widely installed in copper access
networks and enable to connect multiple analogue telephone
subscribers (POTS) over one copper pair. It is
worldwide accepted solution thanks to the simplicity of
usage and fast ROI. Gradual TDM to NGN migration IPS EMX-Nxx series of Pair-Gain system with integrated
IP-DSLAM however overcomes the problem of Broadband
Access. A 4-port mini IP-DSLAM is integrated in RT unit in order to provide Broadband Internet DSL access to 4 subscribers. What is EMX-N48 EMX-N48 is an 8-channel Pair Gain System with a 4-port IP-DSLAM integrated in RT unit. It enables to connect up to eight (8) POTS subscribers over one copper pair, four (4) of them with Broadband Internet Access (DSL). Technology used in EMX-N48 SHDSL technology is used to extend the reach from COT to RT unit and can ensure further loop extension by means of repeaters. SHDSL provides symmetrical or asymmetrical data transmission to all Broadband subscribers. TDM and/or IP technology is used for providing telephone (POTS) service. EMX-N48-S RT comes in two versions: in extremely small metal housing for installation in existing cabinets and in compact plastic outdoor housing for installations on poles and walls. IP-DSLAM functionality 4 port remotely powered integrated mini IP-DSLAM with onboard splitters connects over one copper pair to SHDSL COT card at exchange side and provides up to four (4) DSL connections to CPE equipment at customer’s premises. It is designed to meet WT-101 requirements for Internet security. All subscribers are fully segregated in entire EMX aggregating structure. Tag-VLAN on per-port basis provides further segregation/association possibilities. PPPoE intermediate agent and DHCP relayagent (option 82) functionality may be used for preventing malicious Internet usage. The EMX-N48 Equipment Equipment at CO side The equipment at CO side resides in standard 19'’ shelf UAR-x14 at CO premises (e.g. MDF). It consists of the following cards:
The equipment collects and aggregates IP and voice traffic from all RT units which are connected over SHDSL lines. Internet uplink connects with FE or GE to higher level L3 switch (e.g. Cisco 4506 or even some DSLAM’s FE or GE port). POTS telephone lines connect to PSTN switch via a/b wires (Z interface). On the other side each COT SHDSL card supports 2 SHDSL interfaces. Thus up to 26 RT units EMX-N48-S are supported by one UAR-x14 shelf. The COT units are powered from Central Office Battery (48 VDC). Equipment at remote side Equipment is installed on poles or walls, existing pole or wall enclosures or in existing street cabinets.
On one side RT connects to COT card via SHDSL over 1 copper pair. On the other side up to 8 telephone subscribers may be connected to one RT. Four (4) subscriber lines are provided via integrated IP-DSLAM ports and may be easily transformed into DSL lines for Broadband Internet Access by connecting CPE unit (DSL modem). Four lines are for POTS connections only (a/b wires). All IP-DSLAM ports feature integrated splitters. Equipment at customer premises (CPE unit i.e. DSL modem) Equipment is installed in customer’s residence in 1,2 km radius from RT unit (0,6 wire).
CPE unit connects to RT via twisted copper pair and provides 1 POTS interface and 1 Ethernet interface. One can
connect to Ethernet interface: PC computer, Router, Eth. switch, VoIP gateway, VoIP phone etc. Any kind of POTS terminal
(telephone terminals, analogue data modems, fax machines etc.) may be connected to POTS interface.
The unit is powered from mains. Splitter is integrated. In case of power failure the POTS service is not disturbed
(Lifeline ensured). Please note that no CPE unit is needed for connecting POTS terminal only to any of 8 subscriber
lines. |
